Our Mission

SALMA is dedicated to supporting those who are vulnerable and in need in Morocco, whether that is animals, children, women, or anyone else who is struggling. We value education and providing opportunities throughout Morocco, as well as providing care to animals of all sizes.

Employment for Women

In many rural parts of Morocco, women are at a disadvantage when it comes to employment and being able to earn money to support themselves and their families. Whether due to leaving abusive situations or being widowed, women who do not have the support of a family struggle to earn money. In order to assist, many co-ops are set up in rural areas to employ women to create products, from rugs to beads to baskets, which are then able to be sold. SALMA seeks to support these co-ops, which, in turn, provides income for women in need.

Education for Children

Children are, quite literally, our future. At SALMA, we want to encourage them to stay in school. In rural areas of Morocco, there are many barriers to children staying in school, from supplies to transportation. SALMA seeks to provide schools supplies, bicycles, and other incentives to children to stay in school. Additionally, SALMA provides assistance to young adults who want to go to college but cannot afford the living expenses when they need to go to another city to attend school.

Care of animals

Morocco is home to many street animals. From cats in the cities to the dogs in the mountains, there are thousands of animals in need of food, shelter, and medical attention. SALMA seeks to provide for these needs. In addition, SALMA was created after a campaign to provide food for camels in the Sahara Desert, thereby, in turn, protecting the means of employment for their owners as travel resumes after the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the world.
